Tone Stomach Muscles – Just in time for summer!

Taking the first steps into a change room, with a bathing suit in hand can be a tremendously scary and humbling experience.  We all then walk out with big plans of endless daily crunches and sit-ups.

Even if you actually do spend hours a day crunching away to tone stomach muscles, you may not see any noticeable difference.  This is due to the stubborn layer of fat that is still on your body.  Abdominal Exercises do a lot for your health, metabolism and muscle mass, but without a balanced diet and nutritional food choices you will not ever reap the rewards of your hard work.  Diet and exercise go hand in hand when trying to tone stomach muscles. Tummy fat is the easiest to gain and unfortunately it is also  the hardest to lose.  Crunches and sit-ups and even abdominal exercises done on a machine will only help you firm-up and build muscle, they will not necessarily help you lose body fat.  To lose inches and pounds, a balanced diet and cardio exercises are fundamental.

It is always a good idea when trying to lose belly fat and tone abdominal muscles to alternate your workouts between reps of purely abs exercises and endurance based cardio.  This may seem hard at the beginning.  You will feel as though the cardio is too difficult, due to your few extra pounds, however, after a while of doing both types of exercises you will find that your newly strengthened muscles will help you complete your cardio successfully.

A balanced nutritional diet is also a big part of achieving a flat tummy.  As we all know by now, a low fat, high fiber diet is best.  However, not all the diet trends will work for you when you’re exercising regularly.  Fad diets that insist on meals with low carbohydrates are not your best choice.  Carbohydrates are what fuel your body. Without them you may feel that you are lacking the energy to complete your fitness régimes.  The easiest diet is to just be aware of what you eat and to eat in moderation.

So, leave the beach cover-up at home this year and work hard, starting now, to achieve the beach ready tummy you’ve always wanted.
